Here’s a photo I posted exactly 1 year ago today. Neal and I were on route to enjoy a musical night on the downtown streets of Savannah. Suddenly ominous dark clouds envelope our twilight sky on Broughton Street, Savannah, Georgia as an evening storm rolled in.
Savannah, Georgia is a military town. The Army, The Marines, The Coast Guard are all stationed nearby so on Veterans’ Day, Savannah does a parade to honor the military.
This officer and senior non-commissioned officer casually walk down Broughton street after their unit of Army soliders reached the end. It’s a long morning for the troops and many like to walk amongst the spectators who just might be neighbors, brothers, sisters, moms, dads, husband and wives there to support and cheer them on. Childern play as adults peer into the columns wide and rows deep to see the proud faces they know. Great morning, great day!
Dinner on the evening of April 30, 2020 was an incredable oven roasted vegetables. Mini yukon gold potatoes, green onions, red peppers and red onions. The perfect reason to grab the camera and “snap” before eating.
No you need to see the dish that was the catalyst for my last photo! So yummy! So delicious!
Savannah, Georgia. Tourist town extraordanire! Why come to Savannah from the far reaches of the world? It’s Historic District! Over 14.1 million visitors flock the streets of downtown Savannah each year.
Today, during our morning exersice walk, there was a diffence. These usually busy streets were… Empty! No people! No cars! No bikes! Nothing!
Coronavirus be damned! Savannah is under a “Shelter in Place” order and that means “these” streets have returned to the ownership and usage of the “locals”. Hey! That’s fine by me for the shear joy of enjoying what I moved downtown to enjoy! The beauty of the trees, the birds singing and squirrels everywhere without beer cups and trash everywhere.
I truly understand and feel for all the wonderful folks, locals who work downtown in this historic district not being able to work. Today I marvel at the the empty streets of Savannah!
