Fungi are out there. You just have to know where to look.
Morning walks allow me to open my eyes to things we over look daily.
Just a casual stroll along the walking trail around Tom Triplett Park’s pond on Sunday. I found a fungi peeking from a rotting tree trunk. Large and gorgeous!
Such a beautiful sight I had to move in for a better look.
My next thought was to use the iNaturalist app to id my find. A wonderful partner if you like exploring nature.

Visiting our family members in Columbus Georgia taught me if “you look, you will find them.“
Our Columbus family, commonly mistaken for the “Brady Bunch. Ha!
As trips go, after spending time indoors hanging out with the “adults” my two teen granddaughters wanted head outdoors and see their hangout. The boys were helping their dad do “man-ly” things like “building” a chicken coup for their mom, they had no time to stop and play.
Grand daughters Madison and Elizabeth before teen years
Across the yard and up a hill, we three arrived. A favorite place the girls liked to get away to. After a showing off some tumbling moves and cheer styles, one grand girl asked me if I noticed “all the mushrooms” growing in their backyard. I shared with Madison and Elizabeth how mushrooms had another names, how “toadstools” or “fungi” grew all over.
Shock appeared on the their young faces. !!!
All this life growing in our back yard is connected somehow?
Yes! A vast underground system of nature talking to nature. So tiny yet spread out forever!
“Themycelium network” connects and supports, nourishing living things, then aids in decay after death breaking down even solid stone over years. Each girl then wanted a selfie with the these food superstars.
Ok,great find! Madison’s terrific toadstool. Wow! What a view! (Yes, this old photographer had to get down very low to the ground! Ha!)
And the lovely Elizabeth’s earth bursting fungi buddy. She seems to seated on the toadstool cap!?! Like Alice in Wonderland? (Nah, Just camera magic!)
