    Saturday six-word musings

    While home visiting family in Baltimore, we did a little museum musing. The Baltimore Museum of Art was a grand structure housing so many great works of art!

    As I was leaving through the sculpture garden, a kind woman offered me some fruit.

    Thank you! I will have some.

    How kind! How generous! She obviously had enough to share.

    But…

    I feel she may have been giving away the lesser goods and was holding the very best for herself for later.

    She May Be Hiding Some Apples

    So while Neal distracted her with his latest 5 Friday Happy Bringers, I slipped behind for a look at the hidden hand.

    Telfair Museums – Jepson Museum Exhibit

    I love being a member of the Telfair Museums. This past June Neal and I attended a Director’s Circle Art Spotlight Lecture on Fashioning Frida by New York City Based Fashion Historian Raissa Bretana.

    The next day after the lecture, we returned to see the famed portraits of Frida on display for ourselves. Funny, we were told they were somewhere in the building. Searching in every exhibit room, we found no Frida. I finally walked down to the admissions desk to inquire of the whereabouts of this famous icon.

    Well to my surprise the portraits were in an unlit, not advertised hallway leading to the conference room.

    Ah, there she was! Waiting, frozen in time… Frida.

    Museum Musings: National Museum of the Mighty 8th Air Force #3

    Chapel of the Fallen Eagles

    These beautifully crafted stained glass windows depict American airmen, angels, and aircraft. The detail of a service man or woman who sacrificed it all, carried to heaven. Accepted with open arms by One who knew all too well the toll, the weight of burdens carried like bomb laden aircraft.

    Prayers held winged craft through anti-air barrages!

    Flowers laid for many not ever to return. Only remembrances, tiny flickers of faces, laughter, dog tags, co-pilots ripped from cockpits over foreign lands. Again the nightmares, and the thankfulness in the same sweat soaked night. Any of remaining squadron members? 89 years ago. We remember for you!

    Numbers on emblems sown to fabric, worn on shoulders. Painted on air chariots, cast on coins, carried in pockets of airmen today!

    Museum Musings: National Museum of the Mighty 8th Air Force #1

    Chapel of the Fallen Eagles

    Tuesday we visited an amazing military museum right here in Savannah, Georgia. Truly I had no idea that it was a Nation Museum for a famous division of the Air Force vital to combat operations during WWII.

    The exhibits were full of historical accounts captured like in a time capsule. Film, radio broadcasts, newspapers, uniforms, vehicles and much more.

    This series will be on the Chapel that sits on the grounds of the museum.

    Believe it or not this is an actual operational chapel. Not a relic, it was built to resemble an English chapel.

    The Chapel is available for weddings, memorial services and church services by special request.
