Sunday Snap Back May 16, 2021: Greenwich Cemetery Pond and Alligator

Looking back this morning to a walk we shared on May 16, 2021 in beautiful Greenwich Cemetery nestled back in Bonaventure Cemetery, Savannah, Georgia. What an awesome backdrop, the Wilmington River and lush marshes. No wonder a cemetery was placed here.

Created in this cemetery is Greenwich Park. A sitting and walking path for families, loved ones, artists, and contemplators. Communing with spirits, nature or the dead? You are welcome here.

Double ponds, a walking bridge, trees covered with spanish moss dangling down to the water and an….. alligator. Yes! That’s what I said. Alligator in the peaceful pond. Well the river is just over that bank.

Sit back, reflect, paint, but please don’t stir nor feed the locals.

What an incredibly beautiful spot for a park. And the old, quiet alligator is a gentle reminder of an eventual death awaiting us all.
