WQW: Fun
Neal and I love traveling! The pandemic had us basically stuck in Georgia but and some as conditions were lifting and travel became more safe we decided to venture far north. WE flew to Jersey and drove to the Poconos, Pennsylvania and New York City.
While most people know and travel to New York City, how many have been to Mauch Chunk, Pennsylvania? Never heard of it. What about Jim Thorpe? Same town. The town was renamed in honor olympic athlete Jim Thorpe. Why visit this town? The awesome Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway.
Yes we left Savannah, Georgia to ride a train in Pennsylvania! Best trip ever! Not far from where we were staying, the scenic drive to Jim Thorpe was amazing. Small town nestled in the Poconos Mountains.
We got our tickets and boarded to ride in the open air car on this slow moving train. Such fun! Our path took us over the Lehigh River traveling into Lehigh Gorge State Park. As rivers flowed under the old iron trestle bridge and beside us, we saw on the mountain face an abandoned tunnel the train had used many years ago. Couples, Families and even a dog packed our car as a countless number of cameras and/or cell phones flashed both inside and out car.
This was our second scenic train ride. The first was the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway. We love traveling!

Robert, you have outdone yourself with this post. I adore trains and that green and yellow engine against the backdrop of forested mountains – delicious! I’m so glad you had such a great time. The scenery is so outstanding. I love your quote, too. Traveling is powerful! Thanks so much for joining in the fun with quotes!
It was a great trip! Neal and I love to travel and where we live is perfect for trips. Not too many places more than a few hours away.
For some reason, I always see train travel as a real adventure!
Love these photos and quotes. Even when we visit “popular” areas, we like to visit non touristy areas and sites. We want to experience what locals experience.
Kirstin, I like your frame of mind here. The locals’ experience is so much better and the memories last longer.
