Wildlife: Reptiles – An American Alligator in the Moat

. .

Have you ever seen an alligator? Up close? How about an alligator swimming under your feet?

What!!!!

I have. It was April 2012. Neal (NealEjoy), Sarah, my daughter and I drove just a short ways out of Savannah to Fort Pulaski. It on the on the way towards Tybee Island, where locals go for beach-time but this was not a beach trip.

Our goal was to visit an actual fort with a moat.

We had such a great time learning about the old fort. As we crossed the massive wooded planks into the fort, the unexpected happened…

We were so in awe!

The alligator really paid us no mind.

He swam off and we explored the fort.

What a great day!

The next time through the state, I’ll be sure to put this monument on my list of places to visit. I am glad the alligator paid you no mind. :-)
