    Things look different around here don’t they?

    For a long time, Robert Snap Spot has been a place where I shared what caught my eye.

    A cat resting in familiar light. A flower revealing itself only after I leaned closer. A path that seemed ordinary until the morning asked me to walk it more slowly.

    The photographs have always mattered. They still do. But lately I have understood something more clearly: the photograph is not the end of the experience.

    Photography is the beginning of conversation.

    That understanding is leading Robert Snap Spot into its next chapter.

    THIS WEEK I NOTICED

    The photograph was never asking me to finish the thought alone.

    It was asking me to offer the moment to someone else.

    To let another person bring their own memory, question, feeling, or quiet recognition to what I had seen.

    That is why this new direction asks more of both of us. It asks me to share with greater intention. And it asks the reader to notice, pause, remember, reflect, and respond.

    A compass, not a command

    The compass has become an important part of Robert Snap Spot because it gives this direction a visible center.

    It is not there to tell anyone where they must go. It is there to remind us how we might travel: notice what is near, observe what is changing, reflect on what it awakens, and wander far enough from habit to be surprised.

    The winding path at its center matters to me. A meaningful life rarely moves in a perfectly straight line. Neither does a good conversation! We pause. We return. We remember something differently. We discover that another person saw what we missed. Talking about it makes life worthwhile!

    If you spend a few minutes here, you’ll leave having noticed something you might otherwise have missed.

    Helping people notice the beauty that was already waiting for them

    This is not a departure from the Robert Snap Spot you have known. It is a clearer expression of what has been here all along. Hey… look again!

    The cats. The flowers. The walks. The family moments. The humor. The places where history, identity, memory, and ordinary life meet.

    What is changing is the invitation around them.

    I do not only want to show you what I photographed. I want to create enough room for you to recognize something of your own life inside it.

    That is the promise I want this space to keep: not more noise, but more attention. Not a demand to hurry through another page, but a reason to stay long enough “for a thought to become a conversation.”

    That is the new direction of Robert Snap Spot—and, in truth, the deeper direction it has been walking toward for years.

    The photograph begins the conversation. Your memory, question, feeling, or answer helps complete it.

    So stay awhile. Look again. Then tell me: what did you notice?

    There are photographs that announce themselves.

    And then there are photographs that simply wait for us to become quiet enough to receive them.

    Some companions never ask us to hurry. They simply remind us that the quietest moments are often the ones we remember most.

    No dramatic light filled the room.
    No grand moment unfolded.
    No one asked for attention.

    There was only Benny, resting near me, offering the kind of trust that does not need words.

    A hand.
    A familiar place.
    A companion who has shared more of my life than many people ever will.

    Sometimes the most meaningful photographs are not made because something extraordinary happened.

    Sometimes they are made because we finally understood how extraordinary the ordinary has become.

    A lifetime of trust fits comfortably inside a single quiet moment.

    Cats never apologize for slowing down.

    This Week I Noticed

    There is a certain wisdom that arrives with age, and Benny carries it with remarkable grace.

    He never measures a day by how much he accomplished. He measures it in warm places, familiar voices, gentle hands, and moments of quiet contentment.

    Watching him reminds me that perhaps we have mistaken constant movement for meaningful living.

    The camera did not ask me to hurry.

    It asked me to notice.

    And Benny, as he has so many times before, showed me how.

    When Benny came into our lives, I could not have imagined how deeply he would shape the rhythm of our home.

    He has never cared about deadlines or schedules. He has never rushed through an afternoon or worried about tomorrow’s weather. Instead, he has quietly practiced something many of us spend a lifetime trying to relearn:

    being completely present.

    As he has grown older, I have found myself slowing down with him.

    Our conversations are different now. They happen through familiar routines rather than words—a gentle scratch beneath his chin, the way he leans into my hand, the unmistakable expression that says he has chosen this exact moment to trust me completely.

    This photograph was made during one of those moments.

    Nothing dramatic happened.

    No extraordinary light filled the room.

    There was only Benny…

    resting comfortably…

    and my hand reminding him that he was loved.

    Photography often celebrates spectacular places and remarkable events.

    But the photographs I treasure most rarely begin that way.

    They begin in ordinary rooms.

    On ordinary afternoons.

    He Trusts My Hands

    With companions who quietly become extraordinary simply because they have shared so much of life’s journey beside us.

    Benny has taught me many things over the years.

    Patience.

    Presence.

    Gentleness.

    The quiet dignity that comes with growing older.

    Most of all, he has reminded me that love seldom arrives with great fanfare.

    More often, it rests quietly beside us, asking for nothing more than a gentle hand and a little of our time.

    Perhaps that is why I continue photographing him.

    Not because I am afraid of forgetting.

    But because every photograph becomes another way of saying:

    Thank you for walking through life with me.

    On a recent trip to Ponte Vedra, Florida, Neal and I stopped at Florida’s Welcome Center for some “Sunshine State Orange and Grapefruit Juice”. Also hours of driving demanded the bladder to have a pit stop too.

    To our surprise and delight we stumbled into a time warp of sorts. It was like “One of these things is not like the other”, a little “out of place” I’d say.

    It’s a trick question. Have you seen one of these? I think most people never had!

    I mean ‘seen” an actual one in the wild? Not in the Smithsonian, encased in glass? With a “Do not touch the exhibit!, Neal” Well, we all know who (Neal) loves to touch!

    Have you ever used a “pay phone?”

    Most important! Put coins in the pay phone!?!

    No one in America has coins anymore and you can’t tap-to-pay on these vintage machines. I guess that’s why they faded from modern times.
