    Visit a State park and you will fall in love! Visit a state park while you are in love with the one you love! Love and Nature, together!

    Amicalola Falls State Park, Dawsonville, GA. After climbing trails to see the lower falls and driving up to a point, we parked. I walked down many many stairs to reach the top of the falls I met a wonderful couple from Canada. Well I found out where they were from because seeing them sitting there sharing this magnificent view, looking so happy, made me want to photograph them.

    Smiles, hugs, sharing kinds words… So happy together!

  • The People You Meet in a Bookstore

    A portrait captures a moment that’s gone forever; they are impossible to reproduce. Street Photography: Shavers Booksellers. My goal in this series is to create a really awesome frame of people existing because they allowed me time to share their world.

    The year is 2018 and I’m in a bookstore.  Yes, you heard me correctly.  There are actual brick-and-motar bookstores and yes, people still frequent them.  Occasionally you may even find someone reading. Believe it or not some of these fine folks allowed my to snap their pic as long as they could get to reading.

    Today I’m not in a Barnes and Nobles Booksellers, I fancied the little known or locally beloved, depending on who you ask, Shavers Booksellers located in Historic District Savannah, Georgia. I like this quaint little bibliopole just a short walk from my home downtown. Tiny passages and nooks crammed with all manner of literature and such, even comfy chairs and couches to nestle in while you are lost in that ghostly southern gothic novella. No surprise to some but it was to me, there being the small yet stocked tea room.

    Entertain yourself or bone up on your history while you’re here. Shavers is known for having the most books on Savannah past and present. They also specialize in hard to find volumes about the Civil War.

    Book signings, book clubs for every type of reader, friendly staff have kept residents and visitors coming back for over 40 years.

    Savannah is a happening town!  Every other week there is a Jazz Fest or Film Fest and this weekend was no exception.  The community turned out in droves for the Isle of Hope Art and Music Fest. Another example of people coming together for a common good. Artists of every kind, food trucks, and live local music on a bandstand. With interesting people all around and camera in hand, I look for the invitation.

    A couple of festival goers enjoying the day. That cool mustache! He walks by once, then twice, then again as I’m waiting at the Irish Food truck. Well I would certainly call that an invitation, so I ask for the privilege of taking a portrait. They smile and agree.

    I told you the mustache was cool!

    Pat Prokop’s Day Lily Garden, Savannah, Georgia. Memorial Day 2015, great friend Pat Prokop, local meteorologist and avid Day-Lily grower invited myself, Neal, and many of his friends/acquaintances from throughout the community and our church (Asbury Memorial UMC).  One of my favorite people and truly a good friend, Lance Wilhem happen to visiting the open garden too.  As most of my friends know I just love a good hat, and a good smile, Lance had both! Inspired in the moment, and with his permission of course, Lance became the latest entry in my series. Lance loves to smile and loves people so much that he has started a wonderful group in our church and community, Reconciling Ministries. It’s all about bringing folks together and healing racial wounds causing division in our southern culture. A member of our church’s hospitality committee, I do believe Lance is the right man.
