    It was worth the trip from Savanah to Fort Pulaski National Monument.

    Our visit the old fort gave the perfect opportunity for a picnic and then walk to a historic lighthouse.

    Ok, walk to an observation point to see what can only be glimpsed from highway 80 leading to Tybee Island.

    That is the Cockspur Island Lighthouse. Most of the time it looks to be floating in the waves with the tide submerging the small island base.

    It helps to have binoculars or a camera… or a really good iPhone.

    Early evening stroll along the Savannah River. This area has few walkers so birds often rest their wings and perch on the railing. A lone Seagull favors this spot tonight.

    He doesn’t mind us at all, even as we inch closer to capture his digital essence with our cell phones.

    In the distance a boat approaches. Such is life here on the Savannah River.
