Love and Locks
Love is in the air! Love is locked in place!

Savannah’s Squares – Ordinary Life – Pull Up A Seat

Love in the Square
Neal and I were on an afternoon walk through historic downtown Savannah when we turned toward home and passed through Greene Square. Something bright red on one arm of a bench caught my eye. We stopped for a closer look, and there it was: a heart-shaped lock marked “Z + C 2026.” Well, somebody had left a little love in the square!
“I stopped to look at a lock and found myself wishing two strangers a lifetime of happiness.”
– Robert
I can imagine their excitement as proclamations of enduring love were made and that lock “clicked” tight. Love locks are meant to symbolize a lasting commitment, and these two had chosen a Savannah bench for theirs. (Now where did they put that key? Ha Ha!) I don’t know this couple, but I hope their love is as strong as this lock and as celebrated as Savannah’s historic squares!

The Love Seat
Take a seat and have a look at where we found that heart.
From this side, you could almost miss the red peeking out behind the bench arm.

There’s room to sit, though somebody seems to have left a few snacks behind! Pecāns or Pecǎns, please don’t start that fight here! It’s a “Southern” thing!
I wonder how many people have rested here without noticing Z + C’s addition.
Two Initials, One Hope
Of course, I had to move in closer with the camera. I could read the initials and the year, but that was all I knew about the people who put them there. A private moment in a public place.

Was this a favorite bench, or did they discover it on a walk together? Was the question asked here, on one knee? Well, I can just imagine hearing the joyful, “Yes”, “Yes, I will, Yes”!
I like imagining them coming back one afternoon to check on their heart. Savannah will keep your heart in good hands, I promise!

THE CONVERSATION CONTINUES
A Love So Strong

A love so strong that you want to leave a sign of it somewhere special. I can understand that feeling. Our stop beside this bench has me wondering what you’ve noticed from a park seat.
What unexpected discovery has made you smile while sitting in a park?
“You never know who might sit down beside you or whether that park bench might become part of your love story.”
