Sunday Stills: Out of This #World

This huge globe, an old, iconic landmark in Savannah, is getting a redo as a part of a new Starbucks.

The gorgeous globe that sits along Savannah’s Derenne Avenue right before Abercorn Street has stood in the spot since the 1950s.

Local officials and residents rallied to save the globe when construction threatened its very existence.

The Savannah Gas Company built it in the 1950s to store gas, which was its main use until the 1970s.

As many have banned together to save the iconic symbol of our planet, shouldn’t we desire to save Mother Earth?

  1. Wow, how ironic it was used to store gas! Great repaint by the original artist. If only we could refresh mother nature in a day.

Storing gas in the globe was almost like “humans” putting gas back in the earth (the ground) where we took it from. How ironic indeed!
