Sunday Kitty – Desktop Kitty – Seventeen Years Young and Still in Charge
Time to get off the blog and play with my kitty!
Benny has never been particularly interested in our schedules. What is blog building he asks? Seriously, a blog can wait. An email can wait. Even a good idea can wait. When seventeen-year-old paws decide it is time to play, priorities become remarkably clear!
Age has slowed some things, but certainly not Benny’s opinion about fun. A paper towel roll still becomes a toy, the rug still becomes a playground (add a little cat nip first) and a belly rub remains a perfectly reasonable interruption.

He gets his play. We get the reminder. Then everyone returns to work, well… eventually.
While we work, Benny keeps his favorite perch close enough to make his presence impossible to ignore. He is within petting and rubbing range. Luckily for Neal, his memoir writing does not get put on pause.
The heated pad adds comfort; the nearby iPad apparently adds excellent company. Yes, often times he lies on the keys. And when Benny decides the workday needs a recess, he simply lets us know.
The quiet supervisor clocks out. And onto the floor, I mean rug I go! It’s ok Neal… oh my knees!!!
Play first. Belly rubs second. Back to the perch when the humans have finally been properly trained.
Older Cat Finds Rest
A burst of play eventually gives way to the comforts Benny has earned. His Christmas gift from Neal and I, a soft heated programable pet mat. All I got from Neal was a pair of socks, no really!
I had his little bed area all set up for him. Seventeen years have taught him something we are still learning: expend your energy on what delights you. Rest later!
And not long after, guess who is up again with that familiar look asking whether we are finished “blog building“ yet.
THE CONVERSATION CONTINUES
Play. Pamper. Appreciate.
The work waiting for us will usually still be there a few minutes later. The companion asking for our attention will not always be beside us, so sometimes love looks exactly like closing the laptop or iPad and getting down on the rug.
