Refraction. Captured in its best light, The Wormsloe Fountain is a stunning centerpiece of Columbia Square, in Historic Savannah, Georgia.
The Fountain
By: James Russell Lowell
Into the sunshine,
Full of the light,
Leaping and flashing
From morn till night!
Into the moonlight,
Whiter than snow,
Waving so flower-like
When the winds blow!
Into the starlight,
Rushing in spray,
Happy at midnight,
Happy by day!
Ever in motion,
Blithesome and cheery,
Still climbing heavenward,
Never aweary;–
Glad of all weathers,
Still seeming best,
Upward or downward,
Motion thy rest;–
Full of a nature
Nothing can tame,
Changed every moment,
Ever the same;–
Ceaseless aspiring,
Ceaseless content,
Darkness or sunshine
Thy element;–
Glorious fountain!
Let my heart be
Fresh, changeful, constant,
Upward, like thee!

Sunday morning’s walk took on a new yet familiar feel, as an old friend, welcomed again, greeted me. Hey Autumn; Hey Robert! An Autumn Stroll.
Cool was the morning air, crisp and vibrant, magical. Leaves on sidewalks, stalks from corn, hay bales on storefronts and pumpkins from patches torn. I must join with their browns and oranges, their yellows and rust. They permeate, penetrate, pervade and imbue all I see. It is a time of change — diminishing daylight and falling temperatures bring a remembrance of hand holding and snuggling at evening’s twilight. But wait, don’t wander too far in reminisce because this morning’s journey had just begun.
My day is off to a glorious start. An Autumn stroll has charged my heart.
“I cannot endure to waste anything so precious as autumnal sunshine by staying in the house.” [Notebook, Oct. 10, 1842]” ― Nathaniel Hawthorne, The American Notebooks

One Saturday morning before my routine browsing of the local farmers market in beautiful Forsyth Park, Savannah, I decided to enjoy a mocha latte at a favorite little cafe’, The Sentient Bean. I asked for coffee but what I got in return was a work of art. Almost to good to drink but I did have to buy those fresh organic vegetables. I think the barista must have worked at SCAD, the local art school, or something because I had to know how a leaf appeared in my cup. I imagined the young lady creating the Mona Lisa in the next customer’s cup. Oddly when I poured Coffeemate into my cup at home, the contents completely changed color, no Van Gogh there. Ok, enough pondering, that latte was good.

Berry good! Fresh blue berries, raspberries, and black berries all baked in a tart.

Spring in Savannah, Georgia is such a beautiful place. Walking the squares in the historic district is one of my joys. I live just off Washington Square. I happened by an April wedding in Washington Square one afternoon and caught a glimpse of this rare moment. A bride in waiting. A vintage car is her carriage, her company is seated with anticipation as the minstrels play. She longs for that which Spring carries in her bosom…new life, a new life with the man she loves. Waiting for that moment, her moment.
