It can be said that here in Savannah, Georgia there is a bit of a drinking problem in this drinking town. Known for its Saint Patrick’s Day Celebration (drunk feast), Savannah has the second largest celebration in the United States and we have the very popular “open container ordinace” NOG (North of Gaston street), which leads to the problem… litter!

Walking early in the morning, enjoy birds singing, lovely blue skies and temperatures not yet into the 80’s then I happen upon this…

Actual beer and alcohol containers just left lying around.

No, I did not take this picture for it’s cool angles, fantastic background bokeh or the perspective from sidewalk level view.

Just go walking around looking for beauty, historic architecture, brick and stone sidewalks, Spanish moss and there you have it… See what I mean!

Containers, some half full, left on sidewalks, window ledges, in potted plants and even sitting on other people’s car bumpers! Not to mention (but I will anyway, its my blog) broken alcohol bottles and glass on sidewalks and streets.

Many people from around the world come to Savannah, Georgia for a taste of historic flavor and leave after seeing our historic problem, litter from our historical drinking and partying! Oh this is not a once a year, “I’m sorry we are just visiting, it will never happen again!”, litter problem. This happens almost every day.

Yes, I’m thoroughly fed up! (Won’t you be?)

  1. We visited Savannah and how rude of people to treat a beautiful city that way! I would be very fed up.
