Friday Flowers – Saturday six-word musings
The end of May, like many times over the years, Neal and I made a journey to his home town of Ball Ground, Georgia (now called – North Metro Atlanta, he says) to visit his family plot at the city’s small cemetery. The changing of the seasons, Spring to Summer once again means time for new flowers for loved ones passed one.

As Fridays come, Today was beautiful and Neal’s brother Lamar met us there for a morning of memories and catching up on things missed during our busy, seeming non-stop retired lives.

Ball Ground Cemetery
This being a small town and small cemetery, the grounds are kept very well. In fact, workers were busy mowing and edging the around plots as we drove up and made things look so nice visiting family members!
Usually I get my hands dirty too but I allowed Neal to get right to work as I recorded the moments for family sharing.

Is it me or have people in general lost interest in visiting family and love ones at their resting places? Dusting off the headstones or plaques, changing out the flowers, reminiscing about good times, sad times, old times. Catching folks up things since they been gone.
To stop by and say:
“Mom, Dad, Granny Nix, I sure miss you! It’s a beautiful day here. You’ve been gone for a while. The kids are now grown, really big. Not much has changed in town. I sure miss you! But don’t worry, I know you worry about me… I’m doing fine…“

Even though my relationship with my dad wasn’t top notch..sucks that his ashes were spread around a tree in the back yard of his widows house (who I cut ties with over drama at the time of his illness) because the day she passes, her house sells..my dad’s eartly remains will still surround a tree in some strangers life 😕
Alternatively Matt, You could pick a favorite place or park, even a tree in a nearby cemetery and lay flowers there for your dad. That way it would be just you and him.
What a nice photo tribute — to Neal and to his family.
Thanks Don!
Beautiful and meaningful tradition.
